My Process
When I start a painting, I rarely have an image of the end in mind. I paint intuitively, so I simply let the paint, colors, and tools lead me to the end result. I start by choosing a color palette … typically a selection of 3-4 colors that will make up the majority of the painting … and begin to just make marks on the blank canvas. This first layer will likely, or certainly rarely, be visible in the final work. Most of my paintings have no less than 3-6 layers of color on them. Each layer builds on the last, building up and yet uncovering what lies underneath, to create depth and complexity that can never be re-created from piece to piece. As the work develops, I begin to image where the piece will find it’s ultimate home. I see rooms and furniture in my mind that will surround it. I see textiles and linen colors in bedrooms or paint colors on the walls surrounding it, the floor coverings or woods, the mood of the room, whether it feels like a living room, office, or bedroom … a home or corporate setting … or either. My work is typicall suitable for home decor, interior design or office decor. I pray over each piece as I work, that the Lord would send it to its intended final destination and that it would speak the proper message to its recipient/owner.
Check out the GALLERY page, as I try to include “in situ” images with each piece to show how the work might look in a room. Also check out my SERVICES page, as I offer the ability to digitally show my work in YOUR room, if that’s something that you would like to see before making a purchase. I can also bring several pieces over for consultation to help you choose just the right one for your space.
